We’re Fussy about everything, so naturally we explored every possible option before choosing the humble aluminium can for our refills. Not only is it made from recycled aluminium, but it’s also infinitely recyclable...unlike plastic bottles, which can only be recycled once or twice before ending up in landfill. The can is also widely understood. Everyone knows what to do with it. Just pop it in the recycling bin and it’s ready for its next life. Plus, it’s one of the most sustainable packaging choices out there. Recycling aluminium saves up to 50% of the energy needed to produce new aluminium from raw materials. That’s why aluminium came out on top.

Compostable bottles sound great, but they’re not as green as you think. While they’re better than plastic, unlike our deodorant refills, they can’t be recycled and can contaminate recycling streams when they end up in the wrong bin. And in terms of carbon footprint, they only cut emissions by around 70–80% compared to plastic. Where as recycled aluminium cuts emissions by up to 50% compared to plastic over its lifetime. That’s like leaving your laptop unplugged for a whole month.
