So, you’re thinking about making the switch to natural? Unsurprisingly, you’re not alone. Transitioning from a chemical-based antiperspirant to a non-toxic deodorant is a simple step towards living a cleaner lifestyle.
However, you may have heard rumours about transitional B.O. Or maybe you’ve already made your mind up but are feeling overwhelmed by the number of options out there. We’re here to tell you that switching to a natural deodorant is simple, so there’s no need to sweat the small stuff.
Why switch to a natural deodorant?
Before jumping into our top tips, we want to highlight why choosing a non-toxic deodorant is the better option for your pits.
To start with, there’s a big difference between antiperspirant and deodorant. Antiperspirants contain aluminium, which functions by essentially blocking your sweat glands and keeping you sweat-free. Deodorants, on the other hand, work by masking or neutralizing body odour.
Although it may be effective in preventing sweat, aluminium can be toxic and stops your body from functioning in the way that it should. Humans are meant to sweat as it’s an important method of temperature control and waste elimination.
In other words, aluminium: not cool.
Top tips to make the transition to a natural deodorant fuss-free
1. Prep your pits
As with any abrupt lifestyle change, you’ll need to give your body some time to adjust to your new natural deodorant. If you’ve been plugging your sweat glands with aluminium for years and suddenly stop, your body is going to start releasing everything that was previously blocked off.
As you detox your armpits, you’ll sweat out some of the aluminium and other toxins - this is what might cause that brief period of B.O. But don’t let a little bit of stink put you off.
Applying a clay mask to your underarms (yes, the one meant for your face) or using a charcoal soap bar can help to de-clog your pores, eliminate B.O., and set your pits free!
But with brands like Fussy taking their products to the next level, you can reduce or even totally cut out this transitional phase. We use innovative probiotic technology that consumes those smelly sweat molecules, making it one of the most effective natural deodorants out there.
2. Sweating is normal
This might sound obvious, but everyone sweats. The only thing that will keep you completely dry is aluminium, which we now know is not so great.
So if you want to make the switch to a natural deodorant, get used to feeling sweaty. You won’t stink, but you’ll sweat. Sweating is totally natural and it’s totally human, so embrace it.
3. Make it personal
There’s a reason it’s called personal hygiene. When it comes to choosing the best natural deodorant, it’s important to know what you want and what your body needs. Remember, an aluminium free deodorant that works for your friend, might not work for you.
So, if you know that you’re sensitive to products that use sodium bicarbonate, make sure you find a brand that uses a bicarb-free formula.
Or maybe you’re interested in going natural because you want to make better choices for the planet. If that’s the case, do a bit of research to find a brand that best aligns with your values. This might include eco-friendly packaging, an impactful charity partnership, or a reusable deodorant that reduces waste.
Finally, deodorant is all about the senses. So whether you’re looking for a natural deodorant for women or men, make sure you find a scent that you love! That way you’ll feel fresh and confident no matter how sweaty you get.

@WENDY Fussy is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant, so you will still sweat when you use it, the sweat just won’t smell. It does contain ingredients like Tapioca Starch to help you feel dry and comfortable throughout the day though
I like the deodorant very much , I just wish I could stand it up on display instead of having to put it away in a drawer.
Do you get ‘damp’ patches under your arms on your clothes?
Had issues getting the refill in…. Until I read the bit about taking off the top. (Head slap moment). Now I’m all Fussied up. Pits feel silky. It is a little weird to feel them “non-aluminiumised”, feeling as if I haven’t dried properly. They smell very pleasant, and there’s not a whiff of any I-can-smell-your-antiperspirant-from-a-metre-away. So far, so good. 😊
Loving my fussy. One thing that is worth noting for everyone out there is, fussy or no fussy, when I eat meat I smell more. I would say I’m flexitarian, and go through significant periods when I do not eat meat at all. The minute I have a bit of steak or sausage that’s it …. Wiffy armpits
